A recent duel between a Sun-TV contributor and a popular American scribe on Twitter on the day of an attack on the Canadian parliament in Ottawa could prove to be a lesson for the Indian TV media journos.
Sun-TV contributor Vandon Gene posted a video, followed by a series of tweets, accusing the primary anchor of the CNN news show ‘Anderson Cooper 360°’ Anderson Hays Cooper of ‘exploiting’ the tragedy and being ‘rude’. Cooper had declined a selfie with Gene at the site of the incident which claimed a soldier’s life.
The tweets were quickly taken down before Cooper responded, asking Gene to ‘learn to behave’, Vance later apologized though.
The Indian TV media should learn from the entire episode. Many senior anchors, forget newbies, go wild when someone disagrees with their opinion or refuses to toe their line in prime time panel discussions. The outbursts are sometimes said to be part of strategies to boost TRP.
Many times the discussions end in a melee as neither the anchor nor the guests are willing to stop shouting, reflecting their shabby attitude towards viewers. Almost all the channels have the same story as viewers have no option but to bear with them or switch off the TV.
