NEW DELHI: Delhi assembly elections are barely two months away. Top leadership of BJP and AAP, the two main parties after AAP decimated Congress in the last elections, are in the last phase of candidate selection.
It may take one month more as momentum picks with full-fledged campaigning on the streets of the city. Riding high on Modi wave, BJP plans to engage all its MPs and top leaders in the battle ahead with individual task assigned to each of them.
On the other hand, AAP, a party mainly consisting of social activists and professionals from all fields, depends heavily on its poster boy Arvind Kejriwal’s clean image and achievements of its 49-day rule to counter Modi.
However, with young and tech savvy working people in its rank, AAP seems to enjoy an edge over BJP on social media. As winter begins, AAP has launched #mufflerman, a much in line of popular comic characters, portraying Arvind Kejriwal as the new superman. The party is wary of Modi’s rising populartiy following his successful trips abroad.
However, BJP is determined to not lag behind on the social media too. The hashtag #mufflerman is trending on Twitter and popular social networking sites for a couple of days, generating a large number of tweets and remarks in both favour of and against Kejriwal.
One Mohammed Shadab of Aam Aadmi Party adds a poster to Facebook saying “some things in this world are indeed free…” and promises free wifi in the city if Kejriwal comes to power.
Kejriwal is trending on Twitter for a couple of days as #MufflerMan. However, how far AAP succeeds in winning faith and trust of the common man once again and reconquer the city remains to be seen.
