VARANASI: Arvind Kejriwal has announced his candidature from here against the BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
The former Delhi chief minister and the AAP chief was greeted with eggs and ink thrown on his face, and black flags shown to him by people claiming allegiance to the Hindu Sena.
Addressing a roadshow later, the RTI-activist-turned-politician launched a scathing attack on both Congress and BJP. He dared the Gujarat CM for an open debate, accusing him of orchestrating troubles.
“It is not in the culture of Varanasi to welcome visitors with black flags. It was a ploy of BJP to unsettle my rally. Has BJP ever shown black flags to Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi? Has Congress ever shown black flags to BJP leaders,” Kejriwal asked, holding Modi’s goons responsible for the ink attack.
“I went to Gujarat, people showed us black flags there, here also Modiji’s people showed us black flags,” he said, adding AAP has turned out as the biggest enemy of Congress and BJP. “The biggest enemy for Congress & BJP is AAP which is why they both show black flags to AAP not to each other,” he said.
But Modi supporters refuse to believe Kejriwal can make a significant impact on the poll outcome here unlike Delhi. “People want Modi. Only NaMo can give a stable government. Kejriwal is a big liar. People of Varanasi will give him a befitting reply,” said a local BJP leader.
Amid all these claims, one thing is certain. The Modi vs Kejriwal battle here is going to be one of the most keenly contested elections ever. As told by a local voter, it remains to be seen if would be ‘Har Har Modi’ or ‘Phadu (debut) for Jhadu’ (rocking debut for AAP).
