NEW DELHI: The new found hero of Aam Admi Arvind Kejriwal today sought to actively involve the voters with governance.
Following his swearing-in as the sevent CM of the city, KJejriwal proudly announced from the dais at Ramlila ground, an open venue for the ceremony in a break from tradition, that it is not only him and his six ministers who were administered the oath by Lt Governor Najeeb Jung. They represent the aam admi (common man) of Delhi, and in a way, each and every citizen of the city was administered the oath in them.
In his first speech after taking the oath, Kejriwal sought people’s participation in the governance process and announced a number of measures to empower the common man and wipe out corruption from the system.
The new CM called upon people to pledge with him that they will neither accept nor offer bribe to any one amid thunderous applause. He promised to announce a helpline number within two days so that people can call on the number and inform the anti-corruption team about demands of bribes by any government servant in the city.
He said, “If any government official demands money for any of your job, don’t say no to him. Fix the deal and inform us through the helpline of the venue and time for offering bribe. His team will catch the corrupt babu red-handed. He also promised that the informer’s work will not be stalled because of the tip. It is his responsibility to ensure the person’s work is done on time.”
Kejriwal urged everybody to co-operate his government and strengthen his party’s efforts to deliver an honest and efficient government in his tenure.
The leader also made clear neither he nor any MLA of his party is worried about the survival of the government. They are ready to go to people again in case he fails to muster majority in the confidence motion. He is asked by the Lt Governor to prove majority in the Assembly by January 3, 2014.
The CM called upon all honest people from all walks of life to come forward and contribute in making of a golden Delhi within a decade.
In an apparent hint to AAP’s discomfort with Congress, which has been offering outside support to his party from outside to run the minority government, the AAP chief praised Delhi chief of BJP Dr Harsh Vardhan as a good man while preferred to take name of anyone from the Congress.
He also advised his party ministers and workers to remain polite and never be arrogant to anyone. Now that the party has assumed power, it is the responsibility of each AAP member to serve people of Delhi with utmost honesty and integrity.
