LG orders probe into AAP-cops face-off

NEW DELHI: Delhi Leiutenant Governor Najeeb Jung has ordered a probe into tussle between Delhi Police officials and AAP ministers. A retired judge will conduct the probe and submit the report within 30 days.

The order came after CM Arvind Kejriwal met Jung on Friday with three ministers and complained against inaction and high-handedness by the cops. They demanded immediate suspension of the erring officials to send a message to the public against police inaction.

Kejriwal was accompanied by Law minister Somnath Bharti, Women and Child Welfare minister Rakhi Birla and Education Minister Manish Sisodia. Kejriwal warned Delhi Police chief to act against lenient officers.

Later Sisodia told mediapersons that if cops did not take proper action, his government would not sit silently unlike the previous regime, led by Sheila Dikshit of Congress party.

“Suspension is a must because a message has to go to the people that action has been taken against incapable officers,” AAP minister Manish Sisodia said.

A Delhi Police team also met Jung separately, saying the AAP ministers were asking them to make illegal arrests. Police sources say Bharti ordered male policemen to frisk Ugandan women and the police refused to frisk them in the absence of women constables.
