KOLKATA: West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee launched a scathing attack on her Gujarat counterpart and BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi on Friday.
After calling Modi a “donkey” and “danga-babu” (Mr Riot), she said had she been in power at the Centre, she would have sent Modi to jail after marching him with a rope tied around his waist.
Mamata also came down heavily on Congress which, she claimed, is scared of Modi even as she announced not to support a government with Modi at the helm at any cost. However, most political analysts believe BJP will register its biggest tally ever in the ongoing Lok Sabha elections under Modi’s leadership.
Mamata accused Modi of playing divisive politics, adding India would witness bloodshed on the streets if Modi became the prime minister. His state saw its worst communal riots in 2002 after Modi became the chief minister which claimed lives of thousands of Muslims. “That will repeat if Modi comes to power at the Centre,” she added.
Modi had strongly criticised Mamata while addressing election rallies recently in West Bengal. He had dared Mamata to arrest him and make him her guest following his announcements to send back Bangladeshi immigrants to their country if he came to power. Modi had charged Mamata for protecting the migrants due to vote-bank politics.
