In a shocking news, a Mumbai youth said Thursday that he was denied a job because of his religion than educational qualification or any other reason.
Replying to a job application by a management graduate Zeshan Ali Khan, a senior executive of Hare Krishna Exports Pvt Ltd, a diamond export company based in Mumbai, informed him that the firm hires only non-Muslim candidates and regrets that Khan couldn’t be considered for the job.
“Thanks for your application. We regret to inform you that we hire only non-Muslim candidates,” the mail sent by the company said.
The youth posted a screenshot of the mail on his Facebook wall, prompting the National Commission for Minorities to register a case of religious discrimination.
Meanwhile, media reports suggest that the company has tendered an apology and issued a clarification on the row.
“We would like to clarify that the company does not discriminate against candidates based on gender, caste, religion, etc. Any hurt caused in the matter is deeply regretted,” the reports quoted Mahendra S Deshmukh, associate VP & Head-HR of the company as saying.
The company official also passed on the blame to one “Mrs Dipika Tike, who has joined recently and is still on training.”
