NEW DELHI: Congress MLA from Rohtas Nagar Vipin Sharma claimed Rs 1.32 crore in medical reimbursement during the fourth Delhi assembly whereas BJP MLA O P Babbar made the least claim of Rs 8,182 during five years, as per a report published by Times of India.
Similarly, the travel bills of Delhi MLAs present a wide spectrum of claims made by them with BJP MLA from Shakur Basti Shyam Lal Garg making total claims of Rs 3.87 lakh during the last five years, whereas Congress MP from Rajouri Garden A Dayanand Chandila made a modest claim of Rs 17,682 during the period, an RTI reply revealed.
The details were provided by the Delhi government under RTI to activist S C Agrawal.
Besides Sharma who claimed Rs 1.32 crore in medical reimbursement during the last five years, other major claimants include independent MLA from Najafgarh Bharat Singh with Rs 27.5 lakh and BJP MLA from Hari Nagar Harsharan Singh Balli with Rs 17.4 lakh.
Among least spenders on medical bills are Congress MLA from Kalkaji Subhash Chopra who claimed Rs 9,848 during the last five years and BJP MLA Jai Bhagwan Aggarwal who claimed only Rs 15,121.
According to rules, MLAs can avail free medical treatment or reimbursement and free accommodation in all hospitals run by the government and all other referral hospitals empanelled or declared as such by the government in accordance with the medical attendance rules.
The facilities will be available on priority basis as available to Group A officers of the highest grade of the government, provided that a compulsory monthly contribution shall be levied from every minister, the same rate as would be payable by a Group A officer of the highest grade of the government which shall be recoverable from the monthly salary of the minister.
