NEW DELHI: The controversial BJP leader and Unnao MP Sakshi Maharaj surprised all when he mentioned about Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s wife Jashodaben in an election meeting in Delhi on Monday.
The MP was addressing a gathering of about 100 people in R K Puram of South Delhi. Assuring the people that Modiji will take care of people of Delhi, he called upon people to vote for BJP in large number in the upcoming Assembly elections, likely in February.
But everybody was surprised when he compared Jashodaben with the wife of Laxman, younger brother of lord Rama, and thanked her for the victory of his party, as per a report published on Times of India website.
He said: “Jaise Laxmanji ki patni vanvaas par nahi gayi, lekin jitni shakti ka pradarshan Laxmanji ne dikhaya woh sab unhi ki wajeh se tha, waise hi Modiji ki patni Jashodaben ke upvaas, vrat Modiji ke saath jude hue hain. (Just as Laxman’s wife didn’t go with him on his exile but it was because of her penance that Laxman fought the war so well, Modi, too, won the elections thanks to Jashodaben).”
The BJP MP urged people to get seated at empty chairs and not to leave before he wrapped up his speech in 10 minutes, repeating Shiela Dixit who had to plead to a handful of audience present in an 2013 Assembly elections meeting in Dakshinpuri with Rahul Gandhi on the dais. People were seen leaving the meeting place even before Rahul addressed them and the three-term chief minister of the city urging them to wait for only ten minutes.
The BJP MP praised PM Modi for his Swachh Bharat campaign to win the Valmiki community, a majority in the Ambedkar Basti who were there to listen to him. Also present at the meeting was the former area MLA Anil Sharma who highlighted developmental works during his tenure as area councillor.
