Noted lawyer and AAP leader Prashant Bhusan had requested the apex court to end Sinha’s involvement fearing he could dilute the probe. The allegations came after his frequent meetings with top executives of the accused firms at his residence came to light.
The highest court observed that “all is not well” and the allegations made by Centre for Public Interest Litigation, the original petitioner in the 2G scam case, has “some credibility”.
“For us, it appears that all is not well and prima facie it seemss that allegations made in the application by NGO has some credibility,” the court said, as well as observed that Sinha might have tried to save some accused.
Sinha had told the court that a DIG-rank officer of his agency Santosh Rastogi was a “mole” who had passed on certain file notings to the NGO along with some documents on whose basis the NGO was making false allegations.
Meanwhile, special public prosecutor Anand Grover told the court that Sinha had interfered in the 2G case. The court registered its dissent on shifting of Rastogi from the probe and called it “overreach of its order”.
CJI H L Dattu had expressed displeasure over presence of eight CBI sleuths in his courtroom in the morning, and told them to go to office and work in stead of wasting time there.
