MEERUT: Controversial SP leader and UP minister Azam Khan is known for taking jibes at BJP supremos. And this time, his target was non other than Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Addressing a gathering at Lalpur in Meerut where CM Akhilesh Yadav laid the foundation stone for a private medical college, Khan said: “Badshah jhutha nahi hota, aur agar vo jhootha ho to badshah nahi hota (The emperor never lies, and if he does, he isn’t an emperor).”
Khan was referring to Modi’s election promise of getting black money back from foreign countries which, he had said then, if distributed, voters would get Rs 15 lakh each. However BJP chief Amit Shah brushed it aside later saying that was nothing but an election gimmick.
“Badshah had promised to deposit Rs 20 lakh in every citizen’s account. Those who voted for him are waiting for him to keep his promise. He duped the innocent electorate with false promises to grab power. On the other hand, we never said we would provide clothes to the needy and yet we did so,” said Khan further.
Criticising Modi, he said the Badshah was concerned about how Azam Khan got his buffaloes back, but had no soft corner for poor farmers, adding SP leaders neither called Gandhi an agent of the British nor did they build temples dedicated to his killer.
“Mahatma Gandhi had once said it would have been difficult for India to attain independence without Muslims. Not a single Muslim testified against Shaheed Bhagat Singh. Those who did are now asking us to go to Pakistan.”
